There a wide variety of styles to choose from listed below are some of the most popular.

Under each heading there are many different shapes, styles etc available on the market. Unless otherwise specified all photos are supplied by kind courtesy of Forest Garden. You can view their site on www.forestgarden.co.uk

Featheredge

MG Photo

A strong form of fencing, when built using 4x4 posts, 3x2 cross beams and featheredge boards.
It usually works out more expensive per sq ft than lapped fencing.
Alternatively Forest Gardens make featheredge panels.

Larchlap

Forest Lap

A very common and relatively cheap form of fencing, but again as with all forms of fencing suppliers are coming up with many variations on a theme.
The following examples are available from Forest Garden

Europa Strasburg

Europa Vienna

Europa Copenhagen

Interwoven / Wattle / Willow

Willow Hurdle

In the right setting the rustic look on these fences looks stunning. The only downside that I have found is that they don't seem to have the same life span as other forms of fencing.

Trellis

Europa Hamburg

Chelsea Concave Convex

A very useful form of fencing/ screening allowing you to grow climbers up and over them. A huge variety of shapes, styles and sizes are available to purchase.

Post & Rail
Usually associated with fencing in paddocks. A basic form of fencing.

Bamboo
Quite effective form of fencing usually associated with Japanese gardens. As with willow fencing can be used to good effect in the right setting.

Picket

Picket Fencing

Built in the same way as featheredge fencing until the erection of the final boards. Rather than using featheredge boards 3x1 or 4x1 boards are used with a gap between the boards. Ideal for windy exposed sites.

 Gates and Arches

Extra features available from Forest Gardens to add more interest in particular parts of your Garden are Gates and Arches.

Gates
Not only used for security but also convenience in certain circumstances. The following gates are examples available to purchase from Forest Garden

Board Gate Lap Gate Europa Prague Gate

Europa Dome Gate 6

Arches

Florence Arch

Sometimes seen as the final link / touch in a particular setting, leading the person through from a screened / fenced off area into a different part of the garden. Not only adding to the interest and aesthetics of the garden but could also create an air of mystery for the person walking through, not knowing what is beyond the screen and arch until they finally walk through.
